Why hot yoga in Fort Collins
What the heat actually does, what it’s doing for your Northern Colorado winters, and why so many Fort Collins runners, cyclists, climbers, and desk-dwellers keep coming back.
Heat + Humidity: the dynamic yoga duo
Heated yoga in Northern Colorado has a vast array of benefits, some unique to
At Foss Yoga, we see the heat and humidity as tools that help your body move better, recover faster, and leave the dry Colorado air at the door. Here's what's actually happening in a hot room, and why so many Colorado athletes and corporate executives turn to yoga as an essential part of their routine:
Warm tissue moves better. Muscles and connective tissue are more pliable when they're warm. In a heated room your body warms up faster and more thoroughly, so poses feel more accessible and transitions feel smoother. You’re training your body to be more supple, and the heat makes working that range of motion easier.
Cardio without the pounding. Heat raises your heart rate. No impact on your knees, hips, or back. That makes hot yoga a smart cross-training day for anyone who logs miles trail running.
A reset for your mind. A hot room demands your attention. Research is catching up, too: in a 2023 randomized trial led by Massachusetts General Hospital, adults with moderate-to-severe depression who took heated yoga classes for eight weeks saw significantly greater drops in symptoms than a waitlist group. (Researchers note more work is needed to know how much of that comes from the heat itself.
Foss Yoga’s heated classes
FUSION
POWER
GLOW
Combines Vinyasa and traditional hot yoga postures in a set sequence to help you measure progress over time. This is a fantastic class if you’re new to heat as it moves a little slower than Power classes and provides an opportunity to work on the same poses in each class.
Power is a heated Vinyasa class that will further your yoga practice by building strength, flexibility, and balance for peak postures. Great for people who like variety, and anyone looking for a full-body workout.
Glow is a heated mat class that blends the precision of barre, the control of mat Pilates, and the electric energy of group fitness into something that just works. You'll target the muscles that matter - core, glutes, arms, legs - with intentional, effective movement that builds real strength.
Humidity: your break from Colorado’s dry air
At 5,000 feet with a semi-arid climate, Fort Collins is dry. Add a winter of furnaces and wind, and your skin, lips, and sinuses feel it.
Our yoga studio is humidified to 40–50% humidity. Students describe this as the best part of class in January. It feels warm and enveloping, so you can breathe easily and stay focused on your practice.
Humidity also changes how heat feels. Moist, warm air helps your muscles stay warm throughout class, keeping you supple from your first sun salutation to final rest.
Since day one, our goal has been simple: make everyday tasks easier for real people.
We started small, listening closely to local needs and building solutions that truly help.
Hot yoga and injury prevention
Most injuries don't come from one bad moment. They build up from tight hips, weak stabilizers, and imbalances we never address. Hot yoga is the maintenance work most active people skip, made into something you'll actually look forward to.
Foss Yoga’s classes work on:
Mobility: hips, hamstrings, shoulders, and spine
Stability: core, glutes, and the small muscles around your knees and ankles
Balance: single-leg work that builds body awareness and steadiness
Strength through range of motion: controlling your body at the end of your stretch, where injuries often happen
